Rudy Grzbiet (945 m a.s.l.) is one of those quietly rewarding summits in the Sudetes — a gently domed, forested peak nestled in the heart of the Wysoki Grzbiet ridge in the Jizera Mountains, where young spruce forest and a lovely southern viewpoint await those willing to step off the beaten path. If you enjoy peaceful hiking without the crowds, this is your kind of place.

The summit is so gently shaped that it almost blends into the surrounding landscape — the ridge stretches from west to east, with soft, gradual slopes on the south, west and east sides. The northern slope is a different story, dropping steeply towards the Kwisa valley. On the western flank, right along the trail, there is a viewpoint overlooking the southern part of the Jizera Mountains — a perfect spot to pause and take it all in. Remarkably, the European watershed between the Baltic Sea and North Sea drainage basins runs right across this understated hilltop.

The skeletal tree stumps still poking above the young forest tell a striking story: in the 1980s, the spruce monoculture planted here in the 19th century was completely wiped out by an ecological disaster caused by severe air pollution — and nature has been slowly reclaiming the hillside ever since.
