Rudný (654 m a.s.l.) is a quiet, unhurried summit in the Javorník Mountains, tucked away among mown meadows and pastures just to the south-east of the village of Šonov. If you are looking for a relaxed walk through unspoilt Czech borderland countryside without the crowds, this gentle hill fits the bill perfectly.

What makes Rudný charming is its landscape rather than its height. Most of its slopes are covered with traditional mown meadows and grazed pastures that shift in colour and mood through the seasons — wildflowers in spring, the scent of fresh hay in summer, golden hues in autumn. The summit itself is wooded, so do not expect a sweeping panorama from the top, but the walk through the open meadows on the way up more than makes up for it. The entire mountain lies within the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area, which keeps the surroundings beautifully unspoilt.

A fun navigational note: the German name for this hill is Hopprich, but do not confuse it with two other nearby summits sharing the same name — one near the town of Náchod, and another just across the Polish border, today known as Gardzień in the Wzgórza Ścinawskie range. Always double-check before you set off!
