Rabštejn (804 m a.s.l.) is a rewarding hill in the Hanušovice Highlands that offers something genuinely rare — the ruins of a Gothic castle sitting at the highest point of any medieval fortification in Moravia. History and wild nature combine here in a way that is hard to find elsewhere in the region.

The hill rises about 6 km north of the village of Oskava and 12 km east of the town of Šumperk, on the fringes of the Hrubý Jeseník highlands. Its slopes and summit are protected as the Rabštejn Nature Reserve, preserving forest stands with a natural species composition typical of the silver fir and beech vegetation zone. The forest feels untouched and tranquil in every season — lush and green in summer, spectacular in autumn colours, and quietly atmospheric under a winter snow cover.

The crumbling walls of Gothic Rabštejn Castle at the top are a compelling reason to make the climb — this is the highest-situated castle ruin in all of Moravia, and the atmosphere among the old stones is genuinely evocative.
