Ptačinec is a quiet, forest-cloaked peak in the Krkonoše Mountains, rising just southeast of Harrachov. It's not famous for sweeping views but for what lies at its foot — the stunning Mumlava Waterfall, one of the most photographed spots in the whole range.

The mountain's slopes drop steeply into deep valleys on most sides, with only a shallow saddle connecting it to neighboring Plešivec. The summit and slopes are thickly covered in spruce forest, creating a hushed, green atmosphere in summer and a snow-muffled stillness in winter. There are no lookout towers or open viewpoints here — this is a peak for those who enjoy forest solitude rather than panoramic drama.

How to reach the summit

• Ryžoviště — a decent forest road climbs the northern slope toward Plešivec, moderate difficulty, roughly 1-1.5 hours depending on pace
• Harrachov (about 1.5 km away) — approach via the Mumlava Waterfall area; no marked trail leads directly to the summit, so some navigation is needed

Practical information

• No significant marked trail leads to the actual summit — reaching it means leaving the main paths
• Remnants of lightweight Czechoslovak border fortifications from 1938 survive on the southwestern slope
• The popular Mumlava Waterfall sits right at the northern foot of the mountain, easy to combine with a visit

Interesting fact: a 550-metre narrow-gauge railway was built in 1938 just to haul materials for the bunkers — yet no trace of it has ever been found in the terrain today.
