Pastýřská stěna is one of the most striking landmarks of Děčín in northern Bohemia — a dramatic sandstone cliff rising some 120 metres above the Elbe River, topped with a zoo, a fairytale lookout restaurant and sweeping views over the city. It is the kind of place that surprises you: rugged nature, a historic castle-like viewpoint and wild animals, all in one.

The rock is composed of iron-rich sandstone in a deep ochre colour, which glows magnificently in the afternoon sun. From the summit at 278 m a.s.l. you get an unbeatable panorama of Děčín, the royal castle across the river, and the winding Elbe valley stretching into the distance. The hill is beautifully forested, pleasant and green in summer, colourful in autumn, and dramatically atmospheric in winter when mist fills the valley below. The combination of natural scenery, historic architecture and the sounds of zoo animals makes this a genuinely unique destination.

• Děčín – Podmokly district (Elbe embankment area) — red-marked trail, several footpaths approach the hill from multiple sides, approx. 30–40 min., easy to moderate
• Žižkova street (from Teplická street) — the only road accessible by car, leading directly to the summit area

• The summit hosts a zoo (entrance fee applies) and the historic lookout restaurant 'Zámeček' (also called 'Nebíčko'), built in 1905 in the form of a small castle
• Via ferrata: opened April 2014, 95 m vertical gain, 16 routes of varying difficulty — a great option for more adventurous visitors
• A historic railway tunnel called 'Tunel Ovčí stěna' (279 m long, opened 1849) runs through the base of the rock on the Děčín–Dresden line
• The red tourist trail continues along the ridge towards Děčínský Sněžník and the Ore Mountains

The name 'Shepherd's Wall' comes from an old legend of a shepherd who would appear on the rock opposite the castle during thunderstorms — a story that has given this place its enduring, slightly mysterious charm.
