Pálenica (1,653 m a.s.l.) is a rewarding summit in the central Low Tatras, rising above the popular resort village of Tále. It offers a genuine mountain experience without demanding extreme effort, making it a favourite for hikers who want wide-open views in a protected natural setting.

The peak forms part of a lateral ridge that branches southward from Dereše (2,004 m) on the main Low Tatras crest. The summit and surrounding ridge are covered with low vegetation and patches of dwarf pine, allowing for a partially open panoramic view. On clear days you can take in the neighbouring peaks of the Low Tatras as well as the Stolické Hills, Veporské Hills, Poľana, and the Štiavnica and Kremnica Hills far to the south and west. The entire massif falls within Nízke Tatry National Park, so the landscape feels refreshingly wild throughout.

Sitting roughly 13 km north of the town of Brezno, Pálenica is also a natural waypoint on the famous Cesta hrdinov SNP — the long-distance trail traversing the entire main ridge of the Low Tatras.
