Ostrý (1045 m a.s.l.) is one of the most striking summits in the eastern Moravian-Silesian Beskids. Its broad ridge pushes northeast from the Kalužný mountain junction, carving out two steep valleys and offering hikers a rewarding mix of wild Carpathian scenery, a welcoming mountain hut, and surprisingly far-reaching views.

The terrain around Ostrý is classic Beskids flysch country — dense forests, rushing mountain streams (Tyrka and Kopytná), and open clearings near the top that reward you with panoramas stretching all the way to the nearby Malá Fatra range and, on clear days, even the High Tatras on the horizon. The mountain is equally popular in summer and winter: when snow falls, a groomed ski track leads up to the hut, turning Ostrý into a quiet winter getaway.

How to reach the summit

• Tyra (foothill village) — approx. 3 km, the shortest and most straightforward ascent, moderate difficulty.
• Alternative routes from surrounding villages — approx. 5–7 km, moderate difficulty.

Practical information

• A tourist hut managed by the Czech Tourist Club (KCT) sits on the southern slope at 954 m a.s.l. — a great place to rest or spend the night.
• The national nature reserve Čerňavina is located on the northern slope of the mountain.
• Every year on 1 January a traditional New Year's Ascent takes place here — a beloved local celebration.
• In winter, a groomed ski/snowshoe track leads up to the hut.

The hut on Ostrý was first built in 1935 under the patronage of the German Tourist Association — making it a small but tangible piece of Beskids mountain history that has welcomed walkers for nearly a century.
