Ostré brdo is a peak that surprises with its geology - tucked into the eastern ridge of Ostredok in the Veľká Fatra mountains, it stands out with a rocky, limestone summit in a range otherwise dominated by marlstone. It's a quiet, less-trodden spot that rewards curious hikers with something genuinely different underfoot.

This twin-summited mountain (1383 m and 1319 m) has forested slopes that suddenly give way to bare limestone rock near the top. The band of limestone stretches from here all the way to Suchý vrch and Biela skala, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding marl peaks. On the northern slopes, in the Lopušná valley, lies the Suchý vrch nature reserve, protecting valuable habitats. In summer the area feels wild and peaceful, while winter conditions can turn demanding near the rocky summit sections.

How to reach the summit

• Approach from the Zelena valley (Lopušná valley) - the route passes through the Suchý vrch nature reserve, moderate difficulty
• Approach from the Sucha valley via the small Klinčeky valley - southern slopes, suitable for intermediate hikers

• The summit area is rocky - caution is needed, especially when the rock is wet or icy
