Ostré (1,087 m a.s.l.) is a distinct peak in the north-western Low Tatras, rising above the hamlet of Jazierce just 5 km south of Ružomberok. It sits within the protective zone of the Low Tatras National Park and rewards hikers with a forested trail and sweeping glimpses over the Liptov Basin and surrounding ridges.

The summit is covered by continuous forest that thins out in places, offering carefully framed views rather than a full panorama. On a clear day you can spot the peaks of the Low Tatras and the neighbouring Veľká Fatra, and with ideal conditions even the Malá Fatra, Oravská Magura, Chočské vrchy and the Western Tatras appear on the horizon. The terrain is pleasant in every season — cool and shaded in summer, colourful in autumn, and peacefully quiet under a blanket of snow in winter.

During the Slovak National Uprising in autumn 1944, Ostré was a key defensive position — insurgents repelled 14 German attacks from this hilltop over six weeks, using the summit observation post to direct artillery fire across the Váh valley. A commemorative annual ascent is held in the nearby village of Osádka in their honour.
