Obavsky Kamin (979 m a.s.l.) is a hidden gem of the Ukrainian Carpathians — a forested summit that saves its best surprise for the very top: a bare rock tower rising over 80 metres above the treeline, with a sweeping panorama that stretches from the Carpathian ridges all the way to the Transcarpathian lowlands. The peak sits in the western part of the Syniak massif, at the junction of the Plishka and Tovstyi ridges, which are part of the Volcanic Range. The approach winds through dense mixed forests of oak, hornbeam and beech — refreshingly cool in summer and spectacularly colourful in autumn. The upper slopes steepen noticeably before the summit rock emerges. From the top, the view to the south reveals Mukachevo Castle and a broad sweep of the Transcarpathian Plain, while in every other direction Carpathian ridges roll to the horizon. Scattered rocky crags on the surrounding hillsides add a dramatic, almost fairy-tale quality to the landscape. The village of Syniak, home to a well-known health resort, is the nearest base.
