The Maukspitze is the easternmost independent summit of the Kaisergebirge, and its steep, exposed profile makes clear this is a peak for experienced mountain hikers, not casual walkers. At 2231 m, it punches well above its modest elevation thanks to its dramatic position and sweeping views.

To the west it connects to the Ackerlspitze, while to the south it drops steeply and craggily — via the Niedersessel and Hochsessel — sometimes in sheer rock steps, down into the Leukental valley toward St. Johann in Tirol. To the north, it falls just as abruptly into the Kaiserbachtal. This is classic Northern Limestone Alps terrain: rugged, quiet, and rewarding, with far-reaching panoramas that make the climb worthwhile in clear weather.

How to reach the summit

• Wochenbrunneralm (south) — via Niedersessel and the southeast ridge (grade I), demanding, exposed terrain
• From Ackerlspitze — an exposed mountain path requiring a good head for heights, sure footing, and alpine experience; the Ackerlhütte makes the best base for either approach

• The summit cross sits right on the border between the municipalities of Kirchdorf in Tirol, Going am Wilden Kaiser, and St. Johann in Tirol
• Numerous rock climbing routes of varying difficulty crisscross the peak, making it popular with climbers as well as hikers
• The Ackerlhütte is the recommended starting point for both main routes

Despite being overshadowed by its taller Kaisergebirge neighbors, the Maukspitze is a favorite among those in the know — its isolated position at the eastern end of the range gives it some of the most open views in the massif.
