Mały Kościelec is a rewarding multi-summit ridge in the High Tatras that offers sweeping mountain views without demanding technical climbing. Stretching above the famous Hala Gąsienicowa alpine meadow, this rocky spine sits right at the heart of one of the most scenic areas in the entire range.

The ridge separates the Black Gąsienica Valley from the Green Gąsienica Valley, giving hikers gorgeous views on both sides. Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy (Black Tarn) glitters below the eastern slopes, while Dwoisty Staw Gąsienicowy lies to the west. The terrain transitions from dwarf pine thickets on the gentler sections to bare rocky crests near the summits. In summer the traverse is a pleasant outing; in autumn the mountain pine turns golden and the atmosphere becomes wonderfully atmospheric.

• Mały Kościelec lies within the Tatra National Park — an entrance fee applies.
• The rocky sections of the ridge are a popular practice ground for rock climbers — take care near the walls.
• At the foot of the eastern slopes stands the Karłowicz Stone, a memorial to Polish composer Mieczysław Karłowicz who died here in an avalanche.
