Maďarová (1340 m a.s.l.) is a quiet peak in the Veľká Fatra mountains, notable for standing at the junction of three valleys. It's a spot for those seeking forest silence and pastoral views rather than crowded trails.

Maďarová acts as a natural ridge junction - besides the main ridge running toward Čierňavsky vrch, a second ridge branches off to the north. This makes the peak overlook three valleys at once: the Čierňava stream valley to the south, the Bystrý potok valley to the northeast, and the Salatín stream valley to the northwest. The summit and most slopes are covered in forest, but on the slopes descending toward the Bystrý potok valley there's a large pastoral meadow still in use - as of 2019 grazing continued there. Views from the meadow take in the Bystrý potok valley and the neighboring Chabzdová peak. The western slopes of Maďarová lie within the Veľká Fatra National Park, while the eastern slopes with the pastoral meadow lie outside its boundaries.

How to reach the summit

• Ľubochňa - blue trail via Nad Hlboku, Poľana, Sedlo pod Červeným grúňom, Červený grúň, Magurka and Magura to Maďarová, continuing to the Chabzdová junction; distance 12.7 km, total ascent 1175 m, total descent 395 m, hiking time approx. 4:50 h (return approx. 4 h)

Practical information

• The blue trail passes far from the actual summit, crossing the pastoral meadow on the northeastern slopes - reaching the true peak requires leaving the main route
• Views from the meadow are limited to the Bystrý potok valley and the Chabzdová summit
• The western slopes lie within Veľká Fatra National Park, where nature protection rules apply

This is one of those peaks appreciated by lovers of traditional shepherding - the meadow on its slopes is still grazed today, keeping it a living part of the Carpathian landscape rather than just a historical remnant.
