Krzemieniec (1221 m a.s.l.) is the highest peak of the Bukovské vrchy (Bieszczady Wschodnie) range and one of the most distinctive summits in the Eastern Carpathians. Three countries — Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine — meet near its top, and the trail to the summit winds through some of the most pristine ancient beech forests in all of Europe.

The landscape here is both wild and serene. The summit itself is crowned by a small alpine meadow ringed by towering beech and silver fir trees, some over 200–300 years old and reaching nearly 50 metres in height. Views from the top are partially framed by forest, but on clear days you can spot the surrounding ridges of the Bukovské vrchy, the Vihorlat hills, the Polish Bieszczady and the Ukrainian Carpathians. From nearby Kamenná lúka (about 25 minutes on foot) and Polish Wielka Rawka (about 45 minutes) the panoramas open up beautifully. This region is also the darkest sky area in Slovakia — stargazing here is extraordinary.

• Nová Sedlica (SK) — red trail, approx. 10 km, approx. 3–4 hours, moderate
• Ustrzyki Górne (PL) — blue trail via Wielka Rawka junction, moderate
• Stužytsya (UA) — blue trail from the south

• The actual summit sits on the Polish-Ukrainian border; the Slovak-Polish-Ukrainian tripoint is located approx. 170 m to the southwest at 1207.7 m a.s.l.
• The tripoint is marked by a 3-metre granite boundary stone erected in 2000 — it marks the easternmost point of Slovakia.
• The trail passes through three national parks: Poloniny NP (SK), Bieszczady NP (PL) and Uzhanske NP (UA), all part of the UNESCO International Biosphere Reserve Eastern Carpathians.
• The ancient beech forests surrounding the peak are a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site (inscribed 2007).
• Accommodation and dining are available in Nová Sedlica; the village is served by SAD Humenné buses.

The sun rises over Krzemieniec half an hour earlier than over Bratislava — a small but telling reminder that you are standing at the very eastern edge of Slovakia.
