Krakova hoľa (1752 m a.s.l.) is one of the most distinctive summits in the Low Tatras of Slovakia — a broad, impressive massif sitting above two beautiful valleys and concealing beneath its surface some of the deepest cave systems in the entire country. If you are looking for a hike that combines open mountain scenery with geological wonder, this is the place.

The peak rises about 5.3 km north of Ďumbier — the highest point of the Low Tatras — separated from the main ridge by the Javorie saddle (1487 m). The massif spreads across roughly 18 km² between Jánska Valley to the east and Demänovská Valley to the west. From the summit you are rewarded with sweeping views over the surrounding ridges and valleys of the western Low Tatras. In autumn the beech forests blaze with colour, in winter the slopes offer serene snowy landscapes, and in summer the open alpine meadows and limestone outcrops give the terrain a distinctly rugged character.

• The entire massif lies within Low Tatras National Park — park regulations apply throughout.
• The south-eastern part is additionally protected as the Ďumbier Nature Reserve; the north-eastern part falls within the Jánska dolina Nature Reserve.
• None of the caves in the massif are open to tourist visits.

Beneath your feet lies the Hipman Cave System — formed by connecting the Starý hrad and Večná robota caves — which at 495 metres depth is the deepest cave system in Slovakia, making Krakova hoľa quite literally a mountain with hidden depths.
