Kozí chrbát (1,330 m a.s.l.) is the highest peak of the Starohorské vrchy range — a broad, open ridge that stands out from afar and rewards hikers with some of the finest panoramas in this part of Slovakia. Sitting within the Low Tatras National Park, it draws visitors in every season.

Much of the summit is above the treeline, giving sweeping, unobstructed views. From the top you can take in the Prašivá massif, the Kremnica Hills and the Veľká Fatra range, and on a clear day even Klenovský Vepor, Poľana and Sitno come into view. The outlook over the Zvolenská kotlina basin and the Horehronie valley is particularly memorable. The northern slopes are specially protected as the Kozí chrbát nature reserve. The summit is crossed by the Cesta hrdinov SNP — Slovakia's great hiking trail and part of the international E8 long-distance route connecting Donovaly with the main Low Tatras ridge.

• The summit marks the boundary between the Banská Bystrica and Žilina regions, and between the Banská Bystrica and Ružomberok districts.

As a named waypoint on the pan-European E8 trail, Kozí chrbát is a meaningful milestone for long-distance hikers crossing Slovakia from west to east.
