Kopanina (657 m a.s.l.) is a charming, gently rounded peak in the Jablonec nad Nisou district of Bohemia, crowned by a beautifully preserved 19th-century brick lookout tower that rewards every visitor with sweeping views across the Czech highlands. It is the kind of summit that feels effortless to reach yet genuinely memorable once you arrive.

The hill has the shape of a broad, flat dome — its upper meadows open up to wide skies, while the slopes are cloaked mostly in spruce forest. On a clear day the tower's viewing platform reveals the nearby castle of Frýdštejn, the Jizera valley around Malá Skála, the Krkonoše (Giant Mountains) and the Jizerské hory ranges, and on the best days even the distinctive Ještěd ridge, Bezděz, Kozákov and distant Hazmburk. The lower south-western slopes hide an interesting geological curiosity — conical basalt-andesite outcrops, including Mandlová hora, known as a site for semi-precious stones. The summit meadows are lovely in spring and summer, while autumn turns the surrounding forests into a palette of gold and amber.

• The 18-metre brick lookout tower with battlements was built in 1894 by the Czech Tourist Club; its top was roofed and fitted with windows in 1936.
• At the tower you will find the 13th stop of the Scheybal Couple Nature Trail.
• A ski lift operates on the southern slope of Kopanina above the village of Frýdštejn.
• The summit lies just outside the boundary of the Maloskalsko Nature Park.

The western slope is home to the 'Forest of Green Energy', where the ČEZ Group plants trees on behalf of its customers — a small but pleasant reminder that the landscape around Kopanina is genuinely cared for.
