Konský grúň (1,770.5 m a.s.l.) is a peak perched on the edge of the main ridge of the Low Tatras, rising above the scenic Demänovská Valley. It's a spot for hikers who want sweeping ridge views without the crowds that flock to nearby Chopok.

The grassy, rocky ridge offers a wide circular panorama over the surrounding peaks of the Low Tatras, and on clear days you can spot the High Tatras, Chočské vrchy, Oravská Magura, and even the Beskids and Malá Fatra. In summer, the open alpine meadows make for a wonderfully airy walk, while in winter the ridge turns into a demanding, wind-swept landscape best left to experienced hikers. The whole massif lies within the Low Tatras National Park.

How to reach the summit

• Along the ridge from Chopok (2,024 m) — red trail (the Path of the SNP Heroes), time depends on pace, demanding due to the high-mountain terrain
• From Luková, along the northern slope down to Široká dolina — red trail
• From Luková westward to Chopok — blue trail

Good to know

• There is no marked trail leading directly to the summit — reaching it means leaving the main marked paths
• The nearby Chopok cable car makes access to the area much easier
• The peak lies within the protected zone of the Low Tatras National Park

Konský grúň may not be famous, but its ridge is one of the most rewarding stretches of the Ďumbier Tatras — a great bonus detour for anyone already heading up to Chopok.
