Kohút (1,409 m a.s.l.) is the second highest peak in the Stolické vrchy mountains of the Slovak Ore Mountains — and a wonderfully quiet destination that rewards hikers with sweeping views across a surprisingly wide slice of Slovakia. If you love ridgeline walks without the crowds, this one is hard to beat.

The summit is draped in open, sparse forest that frames the views rather than blocking them. On a clear day you can pick out the Volovské vrchy, the Revúcka highlands, the Spiš-Gemer karst, the Low Tatras and even a stretch of the High Tatras on the distant horizon. The peak sits in the northern, highest section of the range, with the main ridge running south-west toward Faltenov vrch (1,338 m). In winter the area is blanketed in peaceful snow; spring brings blooming mountain meadows, and summer offers ideal conditions for a long ridge walk.

Kohút straddles the boundary between the Banská Bystrica and Košice regions — a subtle reminder that even a leisurely hike here takes you across one of Slovakia's key administrative divides.
