Knaudl is a quiet, rarely visited peak tucked into the heart of the Granatspitze Group in East Tyrol. If you're after solitude and raw alpine scenery away from crowded trails, this summit delivers exactly that.

Rising along the Muntanitz ridge, Knaudl sits amid a rugged rocky landscape typical of this glaciated mountain range. To the north, the Graues Törl saddle separates it from the Kalser Bärenkopf, while to the south the Schnaggentörl divides it from the Aderspitze. To the east stretches the Landeggkees glacier, with views down into the Kalser Dorfertal valley. In winter and spring the terrain is snow-covered, while summer reveals bare rock and scree, giving the mountain a stark, weathered character.

How to reach the summit

• From the Tauerntal valley, follow the Landeggbach stream and then the Seebach eastward to the Beim See reservoir, continuing to the Seetörl (2300 m) and onward off-trail to either the Graues Törl or Schnaggentörl - an easy but pathless approach requiring good route-finding
• From the Kalser Dorfertal valley via the Kalser Tauernhaus, also off-trail, reaching either saddle from the east

• The nearest mountain hut is the Kalser Tauernhaus, located southeast of the peak
• The Silesia Höhenweg trail, connecting the Kalser Tauern with the Schwarzsee, passes nearby to the east
• The final climb from either saddle up the north or south ridge is technically undemanding

The name Knaudl comes from a dialect word for a rounded rocky knob or hump, a fitting description of this modest, weathered summit.
