Kleiner Geiger rises to 2816 metres in the heart of the Venedigergruppe in East Tyrol, offering a quieter alternative to the busier summits nearby, with a short scrambling finish that rewards those willing to venture off the main trails.

The peak sits along the Dorferkamm ridge, with the Maurerbach valley stretching out to the west and the Hinterbichler Dorfertal to the east. Nearby summits include the Türml and Niklaskogel, and the whole area lies at the edge of the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park, meaning the landscape remains wild and largely untouched. In summer, scree slopes and rocky terrain dominate the approach, while winter conditions call for extra care on the exposed upper section.

How to reach the summit

• Via the connecting trail between Essener-Rostocker Hütte and Johannishütte — ascend toward the Türmljoch, then follow the scree gully leading up to the summit ridge, demanding route with a rocky final section (UIAA II)
• Alternatively, descend from Johannishütte over the Türmljoch to reach the same gully

The first ascent of Kleiner Geiger was made on 28 July 1913 by J. Dorn and Th. Husche, giving this modest but characterful peak a proud place in the alpine history of the Venedigergruppe.
