Maksymets Ridge is a rewarding off-the-beaten-path destination in the Ukrainian Carpathians, stretching through the Yalowychora mountain massif in the southwestern corner of Chernivtsi Oblast. With its highest point reaching 1345 m, this forested ridge between the Bilyi Cheremosh and Putylka rivers offers solitude, rich wildlife and some of the most botanically interesting alpine meadows in the region.

The ridge runs from southeast to northwest, its slopes blanketed by dense spruce forests interspersed with beech, sycamore maple, birch and rowan. A dense network of streams tumbles down both flanks, feeding the Bilyi Cheremosh. Where the forest opens up, you find traditional mountain clearings — 'tsarynky' and 'polonyny' — used as hayfields and pastures for generations. These open patches are treasure troves for plant lovers: mountain arnica, clustered pink, Transylvanian globeflower and the rare Traunsteiner's orchid all grow here. In the shadier forest, look for creeping Goodyera and coralroot orchid. The ridge feels magical in every season — lush and fragrant in summer, painted in gold and amber in autumn.
