Jaworzyna Ponicka is a quiet, unassuming summit tucked deep in the Gorce Mountains, wrapped in a thick spruce-fir forest along the long ridge stretching from Turbacz to Rabka. It's a place for hikers who value forest solitude over crowded viewpoints.

The summit barely rises above the surrounding ridge, so don't expect sweeping panoramas here — instead, you get the immersive feel of a deep, shaded forest, especially atmospheric in autumn when mist drifts between the trunks, and in winter when snow muffles every sound. The north-eastern slopes drop down into the Potok Głęboki valley and fall within the Gorce National Park, while the summit itself lies just outside its boundaries. To the south-west, the ridge separates the Poniczanka valley from the Potok za Twarogiem valley — a handy reference point for map lovers and orienteering hikers.

How to reach the summit

• Rabka-Zdrój — red trail (Main Beskid Trail), via Tatarów, Maciejowa, Przysłop and Bardo — a moderately demanding, multi-hour ridge hike
• Continuing towards Turbacz — via Pośrednie, the PTTK mountain hut at Stare Wierchy, Groniki, Pudziska and Obidowiec (full section: 16.7 km, 970 m of ascent, about 5 h 35 min hiking time)

Practical information

• The red trail (Main Beskid Trail) bypasses the summit itself on the southern side, running slightly below it — to actually stand on top, you'll need to step off the main path
• The boundary of the Rabka-Zdrój municipality runs through the nearby Bardo peak, separating the northern and southern slopes

This is one of those Gorce summits worth visiting not for the view, but for the quiet character of its wild, little-frequented forest — a genuine breather from the busier Tatra trails.
