Jarabiná (1,313 m a.s.l.) is a forested peak in the main ridge of the Veľká Fatra mountains, sitting right on the route of the famous Veľkofatranská magistrála long-distance trail. Its partly open grassy summit makes it a rewarding stop with surprisingly wide views in the heart of a Slovak national park.

The peak straddles the boundary of the Martin and Ružomberok districts, and its southern slopes fall within the NPR Madačov nature reserve. From the top, the northern peaks of Veľká Fatra dominate the horizon, but on clear days you can take in nearly the entire ridge of Malá Fatra, parts of Oravská Magura, Babia hora, Veľký Choč, and even — looking over the Strečno pass — the peaks of Lysá hora, Smrk and Kněhyně in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids across the border. Autumn transforms the beech forests into shades of gold, spring brings the meadow to life at the summit, and winter offers a peaceful, snowy ridge walk away from the crowds.

On an exceptionally clear day, the summit of Jarabiná offers a view that stretches right across the Slovak border into the Moravian-Silesian Beskids — a rare treat that makes this wooded ridge peak much more than it might first appear.
