Hrb (1,255 m a.s.l.) is a forested peak in the northern part of the Poľana massif in central Slovakia — and it holds a remarkable distinction: it is the geometrically calculated geographic centre of Slovakia. Add to that dramatic rocky cliffs up to 40 metres high and sweeping views in almost every direction, and you have a summit well worth the hike.

The peak forms part of a ridge running through Hájny grúň and Vepor, sharing a massif with the slightly higher Vepor (1,277 m) to the south. The terrain is densely forested, with a sheer rock face dropping steeply to the north and west — giving Hrb a wild, rugged character that feels surprisingly remote. From the best viewpoints, you can scan the surrounding hills of Poľana and the Veporské vrchy, the long spine of the Low Tatras, and westward to Veľká Fatra and the Kremnické vrchy. On exceptionally clear days, the jagged peaks of the High Tatras are visible to the north, rising beyond the Low Tatra ridge. The red-marked Rudná magistrála long-distance trail passes directly over the summit.

• The summit lies within the Ľubietovský Vepor National Nature Reserve, part of the Poľana Protected Landscape Area — nature protection rules apply.
• Chata pod Hrbom is located near the saddle below the summit and serves as a convenient base or shelter.
• The summit is crossed by the red-marked Rudná magistrála long-distance trail.

Standing on the highest point of Hrb, you are — quite literally — at the heart of Slovakia, a fact that gives this quiet forested summit a symbolic weight that no other peak in the country can claim.
