Hostra Hora (1,405 m a.s.l.) is a double-peaked ridge rising quietly in the north-western part of the Polonyna Range in the Ukrainian Carpathians — a place where dense forest gives way to open alpine meadows and the sense of true wilderness is very much alive. Its two almost equal summits stretch from south-east to north-west, making it a distinctive landmark in this little-explored corner of Zakarpattia.

Below about 1,300 m the mountain is cloaked in forest; above that, classic Carpathian polonyny — broad grassy highlands — open up with sweeping views of the surrounding massifs. In summer the meadows are lush and green; autumn transforms the lower slopes into a mosaic of gold and amber. On the south-western flanks the Lytianka river has its source, while to the south lies the Turye-Polyana Zoological Nature Reserve, adding an extra layer of wild character to the area.

• Villages of Perekhresnyj or Kichernyj (from the north) — approach through forest to the ridge, moderate difficulty.
• From Polonyna Rivna (from the south) — ridge walk across open polonyna, more scenic alternative.

• The summit sits on the boundary between Velykoberezniansky and Volovetsky districts of Zakarpattia Oblast — check current access conditions near the southern nature reserve before setting out.
• No marked tourist infrastructure in the area — a topographic map or offline GPS app is strongly recommended.

With its twin peaks and untouched polonyny, Hostra Hora rewards those willing to venture off the beaten path in the Ukrainian Carpathians.
