Hlińska Turnia (2,340 m a.s.l.) is one of the High Tatras' truly wild summits — a rocky spire rising above the Hlinská Valley that rewards those who make the effort with sweeping 360-degree views and an atmosphere of genuine alpine solitude. The catch? You can only reach it with a licensed mountain guide.

The peak sits along the Kriváň ridge, above the famous Štrbské Pleso resort, acting as a junction point for the Bastion Ridge that separates the Mlynická Valley to the southwest from the Mengusovská Valley to the southeast. The terrain is rugged and dramatic — sheer rock faces, glacially carved valleys, and high-altitude lakes including Malé Hincovo pleso and Vyšné Kozie pleso glittering below. On a clear day, the summit panorama takes in Kriváň, Vysoká, Rysy, Kôprovský štít and dozens more iconic Tatra peaks, as well as distant views toward the Volovec Hills, Low Tatras and Orava Beskids. In summer the mountain is all grey rock and alpine green; in winter it becomes a serious ice and snow environment.

• Štrbské Pleso (resort parking) — no marked trail exists; access only with a licensed mountain guide; difficulty: very demanding, high-alpine terrain.

• Entry to Hlińska Turnia is permitted only with a licensed mountain guide, as required by Tatra National Park regulations.
• The summit lies within three protected national nature reserves: Mengusovská Valley, Kôprová Valley, and Mlynická Valley.
• There is no summit register and no mountain hut in the immediate vicinity of the peak.

Interestingly, Hlińska Turnia sits on a continental watershed — water from its eastern slopes drains to the Baltic Sea via the Poprad River, while water from its northwestern slopes flows toward the Black Sea via the Váh River.
