At 1801 m, Harghita-Mădăraș is the highest point of the Harghita Mountains and the entire Székely Land — a dormant volcanic peak that draws visitors in every season and is consistently the most popular summit in the whole massif.

You are standing on the northern rim of an ancient stratovolcano whose crater once stretched 5 km wide — one of the largest volcanic remnants in the Eastern Carpathians. • Madarasi Hargita resort area, 36 km from Odorheiu Secuiesc — starting point at around 1650 m a.s.l., with a short and easy walk to the summit; difficulty: easy.

• The Madarasi-Hargita mountain hut, built in 1941, sits at 1650 m and offers accommodation and meals.
• The ski resort features 4.5 km of runs: blue (1500 m), red (1500 m), black (600 m) and extreme (700 m), between 1500 and 1760 m a.s.l.
• Lifts: disc lift 650 m, T-bar 700 m, and two beginner lifts (200 m and 170 m).
• Snow is reliable from mid-December to mid-April; in good years the season extends to mid-May. Pistes are groomed by snowcat.
