The Glexenköpfe are three rocky summits rising straight out of a glacier in the very heart of the Venediger Group. This is a destination for those seeking a true high-alpine adventure rather than a simple panoramic walk.

The peaks barely rise above the surrounding ice, flanked by the Äußeres Mullwitzkees glacier on one side and the Zettalunitzkees on the other, which merge just south of the summits. Set within the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park, this is a stark, glacial landscape defined by silence and high-mountain solitude. Nearby, the impressive neighbouring peaks of Hoher Zaun, Stein am Ferner and Weißspitze complete a dramatic panorama of three-thousanders.

How to reach the summit

• Defreggerhaus — cross the Äußeres Mullwitzkees glacier eastward, then climb to the southern summit and traverse the two northern rock towers along a sharp ridge (grade III, alpine climbing skills required)

• The approach to the rocky island of the Glexenköpfe begins near the southern summit
