Galya-tető (965 m a.s.l.) is Hungary's third highest peak, tucked away in the Mátra range — and it rewards visitors with some of the most sweeping views in the country. On a crystal-clear day after a cold front, you can spot Budapest to the south and the High Tatras of Slovakia shimmering on the northern horizon.

The summit is wrapped in dense Mátra forest that keeps things cool and shady in summer and turns a spectacular palette of gold and amber in autumn. The terrain is gentle by mountain standards, making Galya-tető a perfect destination for families, beginners and anyone looking for an easy escape from the Hungarian lowlands. The small settlement of Galyatető, administratively part of Mátraszentimre, sits right at the base and serves as a convenient starting point.
