Fabova hoľa (1,439 m a.s.l.) is the highest peak of the Veporské vrchy mountains in central Slovakia — a quiet, unhurried range that rewards those willing to venture off the beaten track with sweeping views and genuine mountain solitude. Standing here, you feel far from the tourist crowds, yet the panorama reminds you just how grand this part of Slovakia really is.

A windstorm once tore through the original spruce-beech-fir forest that used to cap the summit, and while that was a loss for the woodland, it gifted hikers with an almost complete 360-degree view from the top. On a clear day you can pick out the ridges of the Low Tatras, the Slovak Karst, the Stolické vrchy hills, Poľana, and — on the best days — even the High Tatras far to the north and the hills of northern Hungary to the south. Autumn brings rich amber colours to the slopes, while winter wraps the whole area in peaceful, snow-covered stillness.

An interesting geographical detail: the southern slopes of Fabova hoľa are the source area of the Rimava river, draining toward the Slaná, while the eastern and western slopes feed the Hron — making this single peak a true watershed of central Slovakia.
