Dereše (2,004 m a.s.l.) sits on the main ridge of the Low Tatras, wedged between Kotliská and the popular Chopok, and offers something that many higher peaks fail to deliver — a truly unobstructed, 360-degree panorama that stretches far beyond the range itself. Perched above the scenic Demänovská Valley, it is a rewarding destination whether you approach from the ski-resort buzz of Chopok or from the quieter western side.

The ridge has a distinctly asymmetric character: its southern slopes descend gently into the Vajskovská and Bystrá valleys, while the northern face drops steeply into the Dereše hollow, which feeds down into the Demänovská Valley. The rocky, grassy summit ridge is open and airy — on a clear day you can spot the High Tatras, the Malá and Veľká Fatra, the Chočské Hills, Oravská Magura, the Beskyds, and even the distant Štiavnické Hills. In summer the ridge is a hiker's delight; in winter it connects to the vast Jasná ski area centred on neighbouring Chopok.

Standing on Dereše you are literally on the watershed between two of Slovakia's great river systems — water falling to the north drains via the Demänovka into the Váh, while water on the southern slopes finds its way into the Hron via the Bystrianka and Vajskovský streams.
