Czeskie Kamienie (1416 m a.s.l.) is one of the most distinctive spots along the Silesian Ridge in the Karkonosze — a place where the Polish-Czech border runs literally through the summit rocks. The massive granite blocks, rising some 11 metres and scattered across about 50 metres of ridge, give the top a raw, striking character that stays with you long after the hike.

The summit is draped in mountain pine scrub, which smells wonderful in summer and wears a thick coat of snow in winter. Lower on the slopes, upper-montane spruce forests take over — a classic Karkonosze scene. Together with the neighbouring Śląskie Kamienie to the east, the peak forms a broad, impressive ridge culmination with a genuinely alpine feel. Expect wind almost any time of year, and don't be surprised if mist wraps around the boulders and turns the whole place into something out of a fairytale.

How to reach the summit

• From Szklarska Poręba or Karpacz — red trail (part of the Main Sudeten Trail running along the Silesian Ridge), moderate difficulty.

Practical information

• The Polish-Czech state border crosses directly through the summit rocks.
• The area is protected by both the Polish Karkonosze National Park and the Czech Krkonošský národní park (KRNAP).
• One of the boulders bears a carved date — 14 January 1929 — marking the spot where Czech journalist Rudolf Kalman died in a snowstorm.

That quiet inscription in the granite is a powerful reminder of the mountain's unpredictable nature — and makes this summit far more than just a pretty waypoint on the ridge trail.
