Ciężki Szczyt (2,500 m a.s.l.) is a rugged, technical peak sitting right in the main ridge of the High Tatras, wedged between Rysy and Vysoká — and it rewards those who dare with a truly breathtaking 360-degree panorama. This is not a mountain for casual walkers, but for those who love wild rock and the feel of real alpine terrain.

The peak is defined by dramatic rock walls on all sides. The 400-metre northeast face dropping into Dolina Ciężka is considered one of the finest climbing walls in the entire High Tatras. To the west, a 220-metre wall plunges toward the popular Dolinka pod Wachem. From the summit, views stretch across the High Tatras peaks and valleys, the Belianske Tatry ridge, the Low Tatras, Veľká Fatra, the Orava Beskids and many peaks across southern Poland — a truly panoramic reward.

How to reach the summit

• The closest marked trail runs from Mengusovská Valley via Chata pod Rysmi hut to the Váha saddle (red trail) — from here, reaching the summit requires climbing skills along the northwest ridge (grade II–III).
• The normal route approaches from the south via Dračia dolinka (grade II), first climbed by J. Roguská and W. Żuławski in 1909.

Practical information

• The peak lies within a strictly protected nature reserve — access is permitted only with a licensed mountain guide.
• Chata pod Rysmi hut is located nearby and offers accommodation and refreshments.
• The impressive northeast face was first climbed on 27 August 1932 by W. Stanislawski and Warsaw painter Marek Żuławski — the route is graded V and remains one of the most sought-after in the High Tatras.

The name itself tells a small story — it derives from the Gorał dialect word 'ciezky' meaning 'difficult', which was mistranslated into Czech and German before eventually finding its correct form on maps. A fitting name for a peak that keeps its summit well-guarded.
