Brzeźnik is a modest but distinctly shaped peak in the Rudawy Janowickie range, instantly recognisable thanks to its dome-like silhouette rising alone above the Jedlica valley, right next to the town of Kowary.

The mountain has steeply falling slopes, with only the eastern side offering a gentler approach, and its clearly defined summit is covered in spruce forest mixed with deciduous trees. On the south-western slope, below the top, it's worth stepping off the trail to see the Babie Skały — a group of granite rock formations reaching up to 10 metres in height, a real treat for anyone interested in geology or landscape photography. The entire area lies within the Rudawy Landscape Park, ensuring a peaceful, forested atmosphere in every season.

How to reach the summit

• Bukowiec — blue trail heading towards Przełęcz Kowarska, moderate difficulty, crosses the eastern slope of the mountain
• Karpnice — blue trail, a longer route via Bukowiec, good for a relaxed walk through the hills

Practical information

• At the foot of the hill lies a disused quarry that once supplied stone for the construction of the railway tunnel beneath the Kowary Pass
• At the junction of Jagiellońska and Jeleniogórska streets in Kowary, on the mountain's slope, stands an old, mysterious stone cross carved with a spear

Although today Brzeźnik is mainly a destination for a peaceful forest walk, in the 19th century it formed part of a carefully designed sentimental landscape linked to the nearby Bukowiec residence, complete with walking paths and a former viewpoint at the summit.
