Brusniansky grúň (1,271 m a.s.l.) is a forested summit in the heart of the Poľana mountain range — itself the eroded remnant of an ancient stratovolcano caldera. Quiet, wild and a little off the beaten path, it rewards those who are happy to wander through deep woodland far from the crowds.

The peak is largely tree-covered, giving it a calm, enclosed atmosphere that changes beautifully with the seasons — golden in autumn, snow-hushed in winter, lush and green from late spring onwards. Views are limited by the forest, but from a few favourable spots you can pick out the surrounding summits of Poľana and the Veporské vrchy hills. On clear days a section of the Low Tatras and Veľká Fatra ridge comes into view, Fabova hoľa and Klenovský Vepor dominate to the east, and on exceptionally clear days the peaks of the High Tatras can be spotted above the Low Tatra ridge to the north.

• The summit lies within the Poľana Protected Landscape Area; part of the massif falls inside the NPR Zadná Poľana nature reserve — please stay on marked trails.
• The very top is reached by an unmarked path branching off the Rudná magistrála ridge trail.

Standing on Brusniansky grúň, you are literally walking along the rim of a prehistoric volcano — one of the best-preserved volcanic landscapes in Central Europe.
