The Neumann Mill is a historic sawmill tucked away in the Back of Saxon Switzerland, right where the 6 km long Großer Zschand stream flows into the Kirnitzsch valley. It's the oldest surviving original wood-grinding facility in the world, and a genuine living monument to industrial heritage, owned by the Neumann family without interruption since 1791.

The setting is classic Saxon Switzerland - steep sandstone cliffs, a narrow river valley, and dense forest lining the scenic route into the Großer Zschand. In summer the place buzzes with hikers and climbers, in autumn the surrounding woods turn golden, and in winter it settles into a quiet, almost timeless mood. It's a perfect starting point for further hikes into the rocky wilderness of the Back of Saxon Switzerland.

• Malerweg trail, stage 4 (from Altendorf past the Lichtenhain Waterfall) and stage 5 (onward to Schmilka) - moderate difficulty, several hours
• Flößersteig educational trail along the Kirnitzsch to Bad Schandau - about 15 km, easy

• Bus stop on line 241 (Pirna-Bad Schandau-Hinterhermsdorf), busy especially on weekends
• Inn and hikers' hostel at the mill, guest rooms and sleeping-bag accommodation in a hut on the rocks
• Open to visitors as a technical monument since 8 June 1996
• Fishing is prohibited within the national park area

The preserved wood-grinding machinery reflects the technology of 1870 and honors the inventor of this process, Friedrich Gottlob Keller - a real highlight for anyone interested in industrial history.
