Kási Castle is a medieval hillfort hidden in the woods on a steep-sided hill in Somogy County, near the village of Nyim. This is a destination for those who want more than just a view - here you can sense history stretching back to the early Árpádian era, when the Csák clan built a stronghold on this hilltop.

The fort occupies a narrow, steep ridge between two valleys. The central plateau, surrounded by several concentric ditches and ramparts, is now overgrown with forest, giving the place a mysterious atmosphere, especially in autumn and early spring when mist settles over the valleys. The terrain is demanding - the ditches reach depths of 9-10 meters and the ramparts stand up to 5 meters high, so caution is advised.

How to get there

• Nyim, Fő Street - yellow trail, about 4.5 km to a junction, then red L trail for another 1 km, moderate route
• Bábonymegyer (western part of village) - red band trail (part of the South Transdanubian Red Tour), about 3 km to meet the yellow trail
• Lulla - red triangle, then red or yellow trail, a longer route
• Ságvár - red cross, then yellow trail, a longer route

Practical information

• The SEFAG forestry company has set up a rest area next to the fort with an information board, table and benches
• Off-road vehicles can get very close, but hikers should expect a walk of several kilometers

Although small and little-known today, the fort was already considered militarily outdated by the 13th century - which is why it has remained largely untouched for centuries, waiting quietly in the forest to be discovered.
