Viltuš Manor is a striking neo-Romanesque mansion set on a plain beside the Drava River near Maribor. Its wildly varied architecture, dotted with turrets, dormers and one dominant tower, makes it one of the more unusual sights in the region.
Although the manor is now closed to the public and left unmaintained, its dramatic silhouette against the surrounding English-style park still captivates visitors passing through the Drava valley. In its heyday the interior was famous for marble fireplaces, fine sculptures and richly carved wooden ceilings, but today the building is slowly falling into decay, and a new road has split the once grand park in two. A walk around the grounds still reveals the atmosphere of past elegance, especially in spring and autumn when the old park trees show their colors.
How to get thereThe name Viltuš is said to derive from the German word wildhaus, and the manor stands as the successor to an older castle that once stood on a nearby hill.
