Devil's Throat Cave is one of Bulgaria's most dramatic underground wonders — home to the highest underground waterfall in the Balkans and a chamber so vast it could hold the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. The roar of falling water fills the air throughout the visit, and legend has it that this is the very spot where Orpheus descended into Hades to rescue his beloved Eurydice.
The cave formed when rock layers collapsed, creating its centerpiece — the so-called Roaring Hall — 110 m long, 40 m wide and up to 35 m high, into which a river plunges from a height of 42 meters. Inside, the temperature stays around +8°C year-round, and the atmosphere is cool, damp and constantly filled with the sound of rushing water, whatever the season. Visitors enter through an artificial 150 m gallery leading to the base of the waterfall, then climb 301 steps past the cascade up to the old natural entrance.
