The Borovnica Viaduct is a relic of one of the most ambitious railway constructions of the 19th century - once considered the largest brick bridge in Europe. Although only a single pillar remains today, standing in the middle of the village of Borovnica, the site still fascinates lovers of engineering history and those seeking unusual travel destinations.

The Borovnica Valley, once spanned by the towering viaduct, has a peaceful, rural character - gently shaped terrain surrounded by green hills, perfect for a walk combined with discovering local history. In summer the valley is lush and green, in autumn it glows with color, and in winter the quiet atmosphere of the village invites reflection on the former glory of this monumental structure. It's hard to imagine that for almost a hundred years trains thundered across this spot on the Vienna - Ljubljana - Trieste line.
