The romantic Andrássy Castle in Tiszadob is a true gem on the banks of the Tisza River — legend says it was built in honor of Queen Elisabeth (Sisi), modeled on medieval knights' castles along the French Loire. This turreted neo-Gothic-romantic building is full of symbolism: 4 entrances for the seasons, 12 towers for the months, 52 rooms for the weeks, and 365 windows for the days of the year.

Perched on a rise near the Tisza, the castle stands above the surrounding floodplain, giving it a commanding presence. It's surrounded by a beautifully maintained English-style park, bordered to the east by the river itself, with the volcanic cone of Nagykopasz near Tokaj visible in the distance. In front of the facade lies a formal garden with clipped boxwood and yew, centered on János Fadrusz's fine sculpture 'The Abduction of the Maiden'. The park bursts with green in spring and summer, glows with autumn colors in the surrounding floodplain forest, and takes on a stark, fairy-tale quality in winter.
